Dr. Terry Collett

Dr. Terry was born in Southeast Iowa in 1950.  She married her high school sweetheart, and they attended college and then completed medical school together.  After 11 years of family practice, Dr. Terry experienced a devastating back injury resulting in multiple spine surgeries and several years in a wheelchair.

The first Golden Retriever came into her life as a service dog, and he had many lessons to teach about unconditional love and acceptance, patience and joy in every day living.  Since then, with hard work and determination, Dr. Terry no longer needs a wheelchair, and though she was forced to give up the practice of medicine, she found a new passion in art.

She started watercolor at the urging of a friend, attended several workshops, and then studied multiple media in Europe with the Chicago Fine Arts Institute.  In 2002, she moved to Florida and became a student of Mary Henderson in St. Petersburg.  Her love for animals and its expression in art has been a joyful healing journey.  She captures the personality of each animal she paints, and each work is produced with love and positive energy. She specializes in commissioned pet portraits.

Her paintings can be seen at two art galleries; Art At The Plaza in Belleair, Florida, and Tampa Artist’s Emporium in Old Hyde Park, Tampa, Florida; and at the Golden Retriever Club of America Nationals in Warwick, Rhode Island in September, 2008.
